Research

The collections of the Devon and Cornwall Record Society are deposited at the Devon Heritage Centre, Great Moor House, Bittern Road, Sowton, Exeter EX2 7NL. They moved from the mezzanine level of the former Westcountry Studies Library to the searchroom of the Devon Heritage Centre in early October 2012.

It is not necessary to be a member of the society in order to use the records at the Devon Heritage Centre. However, it is necessary to register as a user at the Devon Heritage Centre, if you have not already done so on an earlier occasion, in order to use the searchroom. It is also necessary to book in each time you visit the searchroom to use the collections of the Devon and Cornwall Record Society (and the local studies collections formerly held at the Westcountry Studies Library).

Members engaged in genealogical research who cannot come to Exeter personally may employ the services of a professional record searcher. The Society maintains a list of approved searchers, but fees must be arranged directly between the searcher and the client.

Volumes in the collection are on the searchroom shelves at the Centre; microfilms and boxed materials in store, and can be ordered up at the searchroom desk.
